Stress is the body’s response to changes in our environment (be that internal or external) and can be positive or negative. Positive aspects involve keeping us alert and ready to avoid danger (in short bursts), whilst negative stress involves ongoing elevated cortisol levels without any break. This is when people become ‘stressed out’ and stay for a prolonged period in that ‘fight or flight’ scenario. Try these 5 fantastic facts to reduce those stress levels so that you stress less.

  1. Eat real food

Eat fresh, raw, organic (where possible) food to fuel your brain and body. Your body can’t function properly on refined sugars, carbohydrates and fats.

2. Exercise

Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that will leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. So find 30-40minutes of activity daily and even incorporate it into daily activities, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work. So when you need to blow off some steam after a stressful day, get your body moving!

3. Swap coffee for green tea

Coffee exacerbates and drains an already exhausted adrenal system. Without it you may start to sleep better and energy levels should improve. Also swapping coffee for green tea is a great option as amino acids in green tea have a calming effect on the body.

4. Take a powernap

We all know the benefits of a quick powernap. About 20-30 minutes gives your brain and nervous system a reset and allows you to perform at your peak capacity for the rest of the day.

5. Meditate

This calms the mind and body. When we are faced with a stressful situation, people who meditate regularly continue to think clearly (using their frontal cortex). This is unlike people who don’t meditate and often go into a flight/fight response and start to think unclearly.

Try incorporating these tips into your daily routine in order to be a happier, healthier you TODAY!

Have a Fantastic Day!!
